So the family and I decided to be really patriotic and go to Singapore during this Merdeka break.
I have been to Singapore hundreds of times but the last time I went was about 5 years ago. The new checkpoint is great...from the Malaysian side right up to clearing the Singaporean side took all of 30 minutes.
When we got to the Singapore checkpoint, we were queueing for our turn, another Singaporean car (Driver A) had stopped and was looking at which toll booth was free, he got horned from behind by another Singaporean. (Driver B) After several hand gestures, he moved and that other Singaporean went into a booth queue, after which Driver A got out of his car, walked over to driver B and they both had a shouting match. RIGHT THERE AT THE CHECKPOINT. Driver A was about 50 and Driver B about 25 or so.
I thought to myself....Welcome to Singapore...
For those planning to drive to Singapore, here is the procedure :
1. You need to get an Autopass (looks like a Touch N Go) card at the Singapore side checkpoint. The card is tied to your car (Number plate will be printed on the card)
2. To drive around certain areas in Singapore, you get charged a toll everytime you enter. If you dont have their card reader (similar to our smart tag), you get charged a flat fee of SGD5 a day. You pay this when you exit Singapore.
3. The card can be topped up in a lot of places. 7 Eleven, petrol stations etc.
